The Glock 42 is an American made 380 ACP pistol. You see, Glock has been exporting 380 ACPs for a while, but because of the BATF's stupid import ban, they can't import it into the US.

A quick look at the specifications on the US-made Glock 42 is in order. It is chambered in 380 ACP, has a 3.25-inch barrel and weighs just 13.76 ounces unloaded. It is a light weight. The trigger pull is typical Glock, has a pleasant feel and weighs 5.5 pounds, but at the same time it is usable. Magazine capacity is 6 rounds (single compartment) and each gun has two magazines. Immediately, there were reports of problems with the new Glock 42. Some guns will not load certain types of ammunition, and on many guns the slide will lock with the bullets still in the magazine. Not many gun writers write about these issues - common! Quietly, Glock made some changes without actually admitting any problems started. I think it's good and bad. I like it when a company steps up and admits there are problems and then fixes them. The good news is that the new Glock 42 only works well within certain limits.
I like the feel of the Glock 42 in the hand, though it needs a little pinking on the magazine floor plate.
Personally, I would not recommend the 380 ACP pistol as a sole pistol for self defense. I don't have much faith in cartridges and only carry one as a backup.

All accuracy tests were performed at 15 yards, and the gun was fired in a two-handed position and without a rest.
I was hoping for more accuracy from the smaller Glock 42, but I got groups of 4 to 5 inches with all the ammo I tried. The winner in accuracy was the Black Hills 90-grain JHP load, which scored there in the 4-inch range. Buffalo Bore 100 grain hard casting load is featured.
The Glock 42 does not like the all-brass Barnes 80-grain Buffalo Bore + P load. The slider will lock on each shot, including the bullets in the magazine. I've read reports about this from other gun writers as well.

However, using Load + P is not always the best idea since Load + P is really difficult on subcompact pistols. My carry for the 380 is Buffalo Bore's 95-gr FMJ FN Standard Velocity. It penetrates deep, and you need to insert any gun first. Expansion isn't always necessary, and with the smaller 380 I'd use a deep-penetrating bullet instead of an expanded bullet, but it's not deep enough to get the job done. Now for medium to full size 380 ACP pistols I will use a +P load that will penetrate and expand to do the job.
The LG-443 Crimson Trace Laser is fun to use and like many of their lasers, it is "instinctively" used. Hold your handgun as you normally would, and in doing so you'll naturally press the small on/off button on the front of the stock. Don't even think about it.
The Glock 42 has more useful sights than any other 380 subcompacts I've tried. But for my money, I'd rather shell out for a Crimson Trace LG-443 laser and stick it on a Glock 42. In my humble opinion, that was money well spent.
Is there anything I don't like about the Glock 42? yes yes This is a Glock Gen 4 so it has a magazine release button which is very large and not necessary on this small of a pistol. I don't find myself speed reloading with this gun, and for some reason the button is too big to be convenient. I have other Gen 4 Glocks and don't mind those big tape release buttons (but I don't particularly like big buttons either).

All things considered, I'd say Glock has another winner on their hands. Just make sure you check the type of ammo you carry and stay away from +P loads. Full retail for the small gun is $480.00, but you can find it for less if you shop around. So if you're looking for a spare pistol, take a closer look at the Glock 42 and also check out the Crimson Trace LG-443 laser. They are a match made in heaven!
